    Chief Marketing Officer

    Where are you based? 

    Head office is in Basel Switzerland, but I work most of the time out of London

    Where were you born and raised and where do you live now? 

    Oxford and then West London, England.

    How did you enter the technology sector? 

    Joined a tech PR agency

    How did you begin a career in marketing? 

    Same as above. 

    What aspect of marketing doesn't get enough attention? 

    Working with wider influencers across academia, regulators and government.

    What would you say is your greatest strength? 

    Joining the dots between needs and ideas.  

    What would you say is your biggest weakness? 

    Distraction with new technologies which often come to nothing.  

    Which marketing technology or other tools do you rely on in your job?  

    Roxhill Media for media data, Adobe Creative Suite for content creation.

    Is it hard to balance work and your personal life? 

    Yes - but it is a fact of life if you work in a global company.  

    What is the most frustrating aspect of working in marketing in the tech sector? 

    Trying to get corporate support for long-term programmes - people want to see an instant return.  

    Is there an over-reliance on metrics and KPIs in the job today? 

    Sometimes - but the metrics always change

    What is the most exciting aspect of the role? 

    Seeing the speed of progress and the beneficial impact that has.

    How has the job changed in your time? 

    Completely different channels of communication as the world has shifted from physical to digital.

    And what still needs to change? 

    Some way for people to judge the authenticity and value of the sources of information.  

    On a scale of 1 (very negative) to 10 (very positive) how would you rate the relationship between the CEO and marketing in the technology sector? 

    9 - most of them really understand the value.  

    How do you occupy your time outside work? 

    Name a peer you believe should be recognised? Martyn Lambert has been one of the great marketeers in the tech industry across decades.  

    What is your favourite sport and sports team? 

    Rugby - and on the eve of the World Cup it has to be England.
